Location: Gyzi, Athens
Client: Café ”LES AVOCATS”
State: 2007_Completed
Concept: Dual Atmosphere
Library_ café ”LES AVOCATS” refers to a double use space that combines a coffee shop with a library. It is located opposite the courts of appeals and therefore the books are mainly of juridical interest and the visitors mainly lawyers or business men. Our aim was to create a space were these two functions could coexist but also compliment each other. For this purpose our approach of design, choice of colors, materials and decorative elements insinuate an “environment” with mature and profound characteristics. On the one hand an English ”library” with law books, and on the other a French “bistro”. The double use of the space is intensified from the different materials used for each area; the café is identified by a rich patchwork of multicolor- multi - pattern wallpapers, a vintage looking mirror that reflects the library opposite and a lattice wooden bar with a marble top. The library is defined by a “vieux bleu” monochrome wall of shelves, where plaster frames divide the shelves in sectors. Antique looking reading lamps lighten each book section and lattice wooden cupboards run along the bottom of the shelves. ”LES AVOCATS” is a place that travels you back in time.
